Mastering Ajax, Part 4: Exploiting DOM for Web response

Ajax, can't get enough of em. Well, Ajax is very new (relative to other technologies) so use with great caution. This is part 4 of IBM Ajax tutorial. I think they use dojo. Quite nice.


The great divide between programmers (who work with back-end applications) and Web programmers (who spend their time writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) is long standing. However, the Document Object Model (DOM) bridges the chasm and makes working with both XML on the back end and HTML on the front end possible and an effective tool. In this article, Brett McLaughlin introduces the Document Object Model, explains its use in Web pages, and starts to explore its usage from JavaScript.

Backing Winds: How to Create Professional HDR Images

Nice tutorial there. High Dynamic Range, astonished by computer graphics (games mostly) but need a beefy graphics card. Probably my next upgrade. :-D


However, I've noticed as I look around that most of the other photographers out there who work with HDR are creating images that, while often extremely interesting, look absoloutely nothing at all like the scene they were shooting -- and even if they do get it close, they end up with photos that have an enormous amount of HDR processing artifacts, such as halos. The reason for this is a popular program known as Photomatix. Photomatix is actually a very competent HDR assembler, but it's tone mapping functions tend to look a bit on the silly side. At least in my opinion.
